CAMP DIRECTOR’S UPDATE |
|
WHO YA GONNA CALL?
We all want to know what the future will bring. We’d all like to be better prepared for it. As Cowboy’s Rest gears up for the summer, Steve (being a chip off the old block) and I (being the chronic worrier that I am) have begun to ask similar questions: “With the present economic conditions, how many campers should we plan for?” “What about staff?” “What about prices?” “What about power?” “What about the phone?” …and the list goes on and on.
However, when I’m about to throw up my hands, I am reminded of the lesson that the Lord showed Chris and I last year from Psalm 37:7… “Fret Not”. The Hebrew word translated “fret” in this psalm means to “become warm inside”, which I always do whenever I get all worked up over the future. Needless to say, I can relate to the psalmist about fretting. But, the psalmist says to “fret not”, in other words “stop fretting” or “STOP IT!” That’s great counsel, but how do I do it? Well, the psalmist goes on to tell us how. (Imagine that!) We stop fretting by shifting our focus off of the questions and onto the Answer, which is our God. Listen to what he says in verses 3 through 7: “trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD…. commit your way to the LORD … rest in the LORD”. When we do these things we will stop fretting because we will realize that our God is so much bigger than all the problems and questions. When we need answers, all we need to do is “call upon the name of the LORD”. (OK, so I reverted to “preaching” a little, but I need to hear this lesson again and again. I hope that you are encouraged as well.) So what about summer at Cowboy’s Rest? We are trusting that it will be the best summer ever, as we celebrate 10 years of camping at Cowboy’s Rest! Yes, it is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since our first summer camp. Much has changed in that time, but one thing has not changed… the faithfulness of our Heavenly Father, for which we are so very thankful. We trust you will have a blessed summer. And if it is possible, come be a part of the ministry and celebration at Cowboy’s Rest!
